Wine of the Week

Made from 100 percent hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes sourced from 10-year-old vines, Rosso di Montalcino is made from the same clone as the longer-aged, more renowned and costly Brunello di Montalcino. Il Poggione ages part of its Rosso for 12 months in French oak with the remainder in barriques, followed by six to nine months of bottle aging. Expect intense bouquets of wild berries, dark fruits and spices from the glass with plum and red currant flavors on the palate. Richly textured with silky tannins and an elegant balance. Good with pasta, roasted peppers and eggplant, veal parmigiana, rosemary chicken and grilled meats. Available at Cork & Bottle, Sidney's Wine Cellar, Elio's, Dorignac's and Cellars of River Ridge.
