Wine of the Week

Like the stunning Beethoven Symphony for which it was named, Eroica takes a cue from its Old World heritage. Working in concert, winemakers from the prominent German vintner Dr. Loosen and Washington's Chateau St. Michelle combined their skills and techniques to craft this wine from a composition of Riesling grapes primarily from Yakima Valley with additional fruit sourced from the Columbia Valley. Indigenous to Germany's Rheingau, Rieslings gather much of their character from the soil, and although New World-grown, this one hits just the right note. A lively chorus of tropical fruit, honey and mineral tones on the palate follows an overture of Tangerine Dream aromas with appealing stone and slate nuances. Beautifully balanced with crisp acidity. Drink now, but it will age well for many enjoyable encores. Very food-friendly, especially with Asian and Indian cuisine. Where to buy it: Dorignac's, Martin Wine Cellar (Metairie location) and The Wine Market in Slidell. Where to drink it: Café East, Redfish Grill.
