Wine of the Week

Send a Valentine to the city — and enjoy a tasty wine treat by rushing out for Toad Hollow proprietor Todd Williams' homage to the area slammed by Katrina. Williams put aside some estate-grown reserve Merlot from the plentiful 2001 vintage and once Katrina hit, he knew exactly what to do with it. Rebottled and distinctively re-labeled (check out the bar code) the wine was aged 19 months in 25 percent new American oak and three-year-old French oak. Williams donated all the proceeds from the wine to Katrina relief (about $120,000) and several of the stores below are doing the same. While you're helping the cause, enjoy aromas of cassis, plum and cedar with rich flavors of blackberry and dark cherry on the palate. Where to buy it: Cork & Bottle, Dorignac's, Acquistapaces Covington Super Market, Hugh's Wine Cellar, Rouse's, Habano's, The Wine Market and the Beer Box. (Listings current at press time.)
