Wine of the Week

Mendocino, California's northern-most wine region, is often called the state's final viticultural frontier. At the beginning of the important Russian River, amidst jagged mountain ridges, a rippling coastline and redwood forests, vineyards flourish in nature's wide-ranging climates, temperatures, soils and altitudes. A blend of 88 percent Zinfandel, 5 percent Petite Sirah, 5 percent Syrah and 2 percent Grenache, this wine exhibits the classic aromas of cherry and spice, roasted coffee and vanilla that persist on the palate with big, zesty black fruit flavors and a lingering finish. Enjoy "America's grape" with a backyard barbeque this Independence Day. Where to buy it: Elio's Wine Warehouse, Cork & Bottle and Dorignac's. Where to drink it: Marigny Brasserie, Palace Café and Herbsaint. (Listings current at press time.)
