Wine of the Week 

Even with pricing on the upswing and bargains harder to find, Spain remains a place of discovery for good-value, delicious wines. Although wine has been produced in Cataluna for more than 1000 years, the region only received DO (Denominacion de Origen) status in 1999. A blend of 85 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 15 percent Tempranillo, this wine exhibits aromas of red berries, a bit of spice and herbal undertones. On the palate, flavors of ripe cassis and black currant mingle in an earthy blend with some rustic edges, round but firm tannins and a balanced acidity. It will improve with splash decanting. Drink over the next two to six years. Good with hardy fare like burgers, ribs and stews. Where to buy it: Sip Wine Market, Bacchanal and Cellars of River Ridge. (Listings current at press time.)
