Wine of the Week 

Bonarda, a varietal that originiated in northern Italy, flourishes in the high altitudes of Argentina. Once used primarily as a blending grape, Bonarda is the country's second most planted red grape after Malbec. This unfiltered, unfined wine made from 100 percent Bonarda is aged several months in American oak before bottling. Medium-bodied, value-priced and quite quaffable, the wine offers aromas of red currants and blackberries with hints of chocolate and earth notes. On the palate, bright fruit flavors of raspberries, cranberries and other rich, dark berries are balanced by a vibrant acidity and even tannins. For best results, decant the wine. It is very food friendly and is a good accompaniment to grilled or roasted meats, burgers, sausage, barbecue, hearty pasta dishes, pizza and hard cheeses. Where to buy it: Swirl and Bacchanal.
