2006 Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Shiraz

Shotfire Shiraz is an excellent value from one of Australia's most renowned wine regions. It also illustrates the full-bodied, fruit-forward, lushly styled wines that helped Aussie vintners gain worldwide attention more than a decade ago. Aged 12-18 months in a mix of French and American oak, the wine exhibits a complex blend of compelling aromas, intense extracted fruit flavors, well-integrated tannins and a velvety, supple texture. Initial berry-scented flavor with spice, pepper and cedar notes is followed by classic ripe plum, currant, black cherry and sweet spice on the palate. Decant to aerate and allow the full bouquet to develop. It will improve with cellaring over the next eight to 10 years. Pair it with roasted meats such as beef, veal and lamb, grilled steak and aged cheeses.
