Hurray for the Riff Raff performs at the Civic Theatre May 5.
The nighttime lineups following the 2017 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival are starting to pop up. During the festival's second weekend, the Civic Theatre hosts powerhouse trio Medeski, Martin and Wood, with Wilco's Nils Cline, on Thursday, May 4. Hurray for the Riff Raff — in the wake of its anticipated 2017 album The Navigator — performs Friday, May 5.
MMW recently celebrated its 25th anniversary amid a career spanning its Hammond-powered jazz and funk to its work with virtuoso guitarist John Scofield and often-improvised, jam-heavy sets. Wilco's unpredictable noise machine Cline joined the band for The Woodstock Sessions (Vol. 2) in 2014.
American Express cardmembers' presale opens 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. General tickets are on sale 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16.
Hurray for the Riff Raff's concept album The Navigator — Alynda Segarra's follow up to 2014's breakout Small Town Heroes — follows New York street kid Navita, inspired loosely by Segarra's own soul-searching, as they explore ancestry and identity amid the fires of "a perpetually burning city." The album incorporates Latin influence to Segarra's folk- and country-inspired palette. The Navigator is out March 10 via ATO Records; listen to the single "Rican Beach" below.
New Orleans multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Leyla McCalla opens with Ron Gallo. The show is all ages; tickets are $18.
