Chef Dustin Brien will helm the kitchen at Public Service, when the new restaurant opens inside the NOPSI Hotel (317 Baronne St.) next month.

The luxury boutique hotel opens to the public on July 6 in the historic building on the corner of Baronne and Union streets, which once was the headquarters for New Orleans Public Service Inc., the city’s public utility and streetcar operator.

Brien was the longtime executive chef at Salu before the Magazine Street Mediterranean restaurant shuttered last year. The menu at the new restaurant will  follow a farm-to-table model, and pay homage to the “Gulf Coast’s hardworking fishermen and farmers,” according to a news release from the restaurant.

Plenty of seafood and hand-tossed flatbreads will highlight the menu, which is still in development. The restaurant’s interior will feature exposed brick walls and a chef’s counter overlooking the space’s open kitchen as well as a raw bar and an exposed flame rotisserie.

“At Public Service, the recipe is simple: combine confident Southern hospitality with a menu that allows the ingredients to speak for themselves,” Brien said in a prepared statement. “I want the Central Business District’s workers, residents and visitors to feel like this is their spot. We are creating a comfortable atmosphere where our friends, family and guests can enjoy honest and delicious food.”

Brien’s kitchen crew is joined by the restaurant’s front-of-the house team, led by Carlos Ramirez, who formerly was general manager at Restaurant R’evolution.

Though Public Service will anchor the hotel’s restaurant operations, an abbreviated food and drink menu also will be available at a lobby bar and patio cafe, as well as the rooftop pool and lounge called Above the Grid.

Public Service will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and brunch on weekends.
