  • Prytania Street Italian restaurant Altamura will close.

Italian restaurant Altamura will close, the owners said Thursday.

The restaurant from Manhattanjack proprietor Jack Petronella and chef Coleman Jernigan opened on the ground floor of the Magnolia Mansion on the corner of Prytania Street and Jackson Avenue last summer.

The announcement of the shutter was made on the restaurant’s Facebook page, and said Petronella and Jernigan will be “focusing their attentions on other projects moving forward.”

The elegant restaurant was largely inspired by Petronella’s upbringing in New Jersey and named for the hillside region in Puglia, Italy from which his grandparents emigrated.

Likewise, the dishes that exited the kitchen carried a strong East Coast Italian American influence.

The building, a 19th-century mansion, also functions as a boutique hotel. A call to the owners was not immediately returned.

The closing comes amid a rough summer in the restaurant business that has included the shutters of several other restaurants.

The full Facebook statement says:
"It is with great sadness that we let you all know that we are closing the doors of Altamura. Thank you, New Orleans for your support - and for all of the great staff we had the pleasure of encountering. Chef Coleman and owner Jack Petronella will be focusing their attentions on other projects moving forward."
