It’s that time of year again: For the month of August, restaurants will offer discounted dining deals across the city as part of the annual Coolinary New Orleans summer promotion.

It’s a chance for eager diners to try out a new spot, or revisit an old favorite without breaking the bank. For restaurant owners, it's an incentive to coax in more diners during the slower summer months.

The deals follow a similar format to previous years, with restaurants offering prix-fixe menus for no more than $39. This year, more than 90 restaurants have joined the list, including several newcomers to the scene.

At Maypop, chef Michael Gulotta’s Southeast Asian stunner in the Warehouse District, a $36 3-course menu includes courses like a chilled melon soup with coconut yogurt, melon salad, salami and cocoa granola, and a hot chicken vindaloo with crispy sticky rice cakes and pickled strawberries. A $20 lunch menu at Public Service, which recently opened inside the NOPSI Hotel, features an heirloom tomato and bacon bisque that gets paired with a grilled three-cheese sandwich on brioche, and for dessert, there’s a summer parfait with strawberries, toasted granola, tzatziki, honey and lemon. At Lula Restaurant Distillery, a three-course dinner menu for $28.95 features an herb-marinated blue crab claws with heirloom tomatoes, sautéed Gulf fish with Israeli couscous and a Creole slaw, and for dessert, a deep fried peach pie purse a la mode.

New Orleans restaurant institutions like Brigtsen’s, Galatoires, K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen, and Tujague’s all make repeat performances, of course, and offer diners an opportunity to revisit old favorites.
