Southern Decadence events and parties scheduled this weekend

Southern Decadence, New Orleans' exuberant annual celebration of LGBT culture, returns this weekend. Once you've assembled your ensemble (your glitter makeup, your hot pants, your rainbow pasties, your leather-and-metal harness), here's a five-day calendar of official and unofficial parties, drag shows and events to attend — including the don't-miss-it bawdy parade that takes place in the French Quarter Sunday.

Aug. 31
Welcome Decadence Pool Party. The Country Club hosts the first of its several weekend pool parties. There's also a drag brunch Sunday (Sept. 3). Admission varies. Noon at Country Club.

Sept. 1
Gay New Orleans Walking Tour. Participants must make an appointment to join this tour of LGBT points of interest. Call (504) 568-0717 for details. 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the French Quarter.

Decadent Ducks Welcome Party. Decadent Ducks host a festival kickoff party with a two-hour open bar (with ticket). Tickets $25. 6 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

Greetings, from Queer Mountain. Teams of two storytellers perform at a special edition of the live LGBTQ storytelling show. 7:30 p.m. at The New Movement.

Bearracuda. The dance party celebrates bear culture; DJ Matt Stands performs. Tickets $10-$15. 9 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

Phoenix Block Party. Lords of Leather hosts the block party which is a preamble to Saturday's "Mr. Louisiana Leather" pageant. 9 p.m. at The Phoenix.

Taste the Rainbow. The LGBTQ variety show features several acts, and Sea Battle performs at midnight. Tickets $10. 9 p.m. at Gasa Gasa.

Fruit Salad. The popular Glitter Tits dance night hosts a Decadence party with DJs Nice Rack and Kacey Chaos. Free admission. 10 p.m. at Voodoo Lounge.

Boys on Parade. Amateur dancers compete in a men's striptease contest. 10 p.m. at Bourbon Pub & Parade.

Southern Decadence Grand Marshals' Drag Show. This year's parade marshals appear in a drag performance. 10 p.m. at Golden Lantern.

Jock Strap Cabaret. Neon Burgundy hosts the drag and variety show with a "lube wrestling" contest. Tickets $10. 11 p.m. at Allways Lounge.

F*@k It Up: A Southern Decadence Kickoff. Nicole Lynn Foxx hosts five drag and burlesque performers. Tickets $10. Midnight at The Goat.

Sept. 2
LGBT WET Deck Pool Party. DJ Jammin' Jorge performs poolside at the free pool party. RSVP to wnolarsvp@whotels.com required. Noon at W New Orleans French Quarter.

LGBTea. There are drag and piano performances and tea cocktails and finger foods are served. Tickets $75, includes bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. at Le Salon at Windsor Court.

A Very Sordid Wedding. Del Shores’ film revists the characters of Sordid Lives in the small Texas town of Winters — now that marriage equality has arrived. Shores participates in a Q&A following the screening. 2 p.m. at the Joy Theater.

Bourbon Street Extravaganza. There's a free concert and block party at the corner of Bourbon and St. Ann streets. 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Louisiana Leather. At the pageant, men in leather and fetish apparel compete for the title of "Mr. Louisiana Leather." Tickets $15. 8 p.m. at Hi-Ho Lounge.

Fleurt. Girl | Crush hosts the LGBT dance party. Tickets $5-$10. 8 p.m. at Bamboula's.

Creep Cuts. Ms. Asa Metric and Mqr. En Between star in the Dadaist drag cabaret, and other drag artists and musicians perform. Kava drinks are served. Admission is on a sliding scale. 9 p.m. at Uxi Duxi.

Furball. The party is a gathering of men involved in bear culture and features DJ Barry Harris. Tickets $10-$15. 9 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

RISQ. Grrlspot hosts the dance party and burlesque show. There also are tarot card readings. Tickets $10. 9 p.m. at Allways Lounge.

Horse Meat Disco. Trax and Neon Burgundy host the dance party. There are drag performances and DJs Tommy Cornelis and Borja Pena play. 10 p.m. at Ace Hotel.

Labrys. The dance party has "Sapphic origins" and features DJs Dreamer, Butchcraft, Shy, Flip Phone and Carmine P. Filthy. 10 p.m. at Santos Bar.

Another Fucking Cabaret Show. There's drag, burlesque, boylesque and "WTF was that" at the variety show. Tickets $10. 11 p.m. at Allways Lounge.

Sept. 3
Southern Decadence Parade. The walking parade features many costumed participants and several marching groups. This year's theme is "Let Them Eat Cake." 2 p.m. in the French Quarter.

Miss High Hair Contest. Contestants compete for the "Bronze Barbie" in the hair competition. 5 p.m. at Good Friends.

Bette, Bathhouse and Beyond. Audience members wear towels only at the show, in which Amber Martin recreates a 1971 Bette Midler performance that took place in a New York bathhouse. Visit www.dworldnola.com for details. Tickets $15-$25. 8 p.m. (and on) at Colette.

CREAM. Drag and variety artists including Milk, Perle Noire, Kitten n' Lou, Elektra Cute and Franky perform. Tickets $20-$38. 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at One Eyed Jacks.

Something Decadent! New Orleans Carnival Kings hosts the party, which features food, drinks and drag performances. 4 p.m. at Mags 940.

Sept. 4
Southern Decadence BBQ. A casual barbecue and closing celebration takes place. 4 p.m. at GrandPre's.

Rainbow Hangover. Graduates from New Orleans Drag Workshop's sixth cycle perform. Tickets $5. 8 p.m. at Allways Lounge.
