Filmmaker Spike Lee is the Zulu Social Aid & Pleasure Club's honorary celebrity grand marshal for its 2018 Carnival.

"When you think about [Zulu] you should think of greatness in the Urban Community," the krewe announced on Facebook. "With that we would like to introduce to some, announce to others a very special brother."

In a 2010 interview with Gambit in advance of the release If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise, a followup to his 2006 documentary series When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, Lee discussed recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina and the BP disaster, what he thinks of former Mayor Ray Nagin and Brad Pitt, and his expectations for then newly elected Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

The krewe rolls on Mardi Gras morning (Tuesday, Feb. 13).

Zulu's coronation ball is Friday, Feb. 9 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with performances from Fantasia, En Vogue, Rebirth Brass Band and DJ Captain Charles.
