Roux Carre debuts new 'Launch Pod' pop-up showcase series

  • Central City food hall Roux Carre has launched a new four-month culinary accelerator program called Launch Pad.

When Central City food court Roux Carre opened in 2015, it hosted five food and beverage vendors, and acted as an incubator for up-and-coming food entrepreneurs.

Now, that vision is being streamlined through a new four-month culinary accelerator program called Launch Pod, which started in November and provides support for five culinary concepts while vetting them for potential residency at the market.

The program includes weekly one-on-one business development tutoring sessions, a culinary-focused workshop series called Mise en Place focused on writing business plans, and a 12-day pop-up showcase at the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard space. Participating in the program this round are Alma’s Melissa Araujo and Pepper Bowen, Local Menu NOLA’s Aaron Washington, Kim Dejan of KD’s NOLA Treats, Diana Beasley of Ms. Beasley’s Healthy Food Truck, and Trinidadian chef Lisa Nelson of Queen Trini Lisa.

Starting Jan. 16, the court will host pop-up showcases for each of the participants. KD's NOLA Treats will kick off the series.

Once all the showcases have wrapped, the program will culminate on March 11 with a collaborative pop-up dinner when the concept to be offered a residency at Roux Carre will be announced. All of the participants will graduate the program with a business plan, and necessary licenses, permits and insurance to run their business, according to the Launch Pad organizers.

The market is a project of the Good Work Network, is a local nonprofit that raised funds from federal grants, private funding and an Indiegogo campaign. The outdoor food hall was designed as a space where aspiring small business owners could build a following with low-cost and low-overhead while receiving training in food service and retail.
