Instigation Festival brings improvisational musicians and dancers from Chicago and New Orleans together for four days of music and dance

The fourth annual Instigation Festival — an artistic partnership of improvised jazz and dance with performers from Chicago and New Orleans — will perform at venues around town Jan. 23-26.

The festival is cofounded and produced by Marie Casimir, a Haitian-American dancer, and Steve Marquette, a Chicago improvisational jazz musician, and features New Orleanians (trombonist Jeff Albert, multi-instrumentalist Aurora Nealand, musician Kidd Jordan and choreographer Maritza Mercado-Narcisse) performing with Chicagoans (saxophonist Mars Williams, electronics artist Damon Locks and choreographer/scholar Onye Ozuzu), Cellist Helen Gillet and the James Singleton Trio also are part of the various programs.

Venues include Sidebar, The New Quorum, Gasa Gasa, The Mint, Dancing Grounds and the Music Box Village.
