The Krewe of Bacchus celebrated its 50th year, and its Uptown parade featured gold-themed floats. It’s “Gold Record” float paid tribute to musicians such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, KISS and others. The “Goldfinger” float celebrated the James Bond film. Actor J.K. Simmons served as Bacchus L.

Rainy weather affected much of the second weekend of carnival parades, but by the start of Bacchus' parade it largely cleared, and the parade suffered only intermittent rainfall.

One of the hidden gems of Bacchus' event was the battle of bands that took place before the parade rolled. The collegiate bands from Southern University, Texas State University, Miles College and Kentucky State University lined up in front of the Rouses Supermarket on Tchoupitoulas and competed. Hundreds of people packed sidewalks and porches to watch the competition. In the final head-to-head matchup, Southern University told Mills College “y’all sound like a high school band!”

On the parade route, Bacchus debuted its new Bacchaneer float, featuring pirates, and the redesigned King Kong family, now part of a tandem float with riders. Previously, the three Kongs were riderless small floats.
