  • Hansen's Sno-Bliz will kick off it's 79th season next week, on Feb. 27.

Snowball favorite Hansen's Sno-Bliz (4801 Tchoupitoulas St., 504-891-9788) will open Tuesday, Feb. 27.

The shop  run by Ashley Hansen — the granddaughter of original owners Ernest and Mary Hansen's — will begin its 79th season.

Bartenders Nick Detrich, Chris Hannah and Konrad Kantor are teaming up to open a bar in the French Quarter. El Manolito, an El Floridita-inspired Cuban bar, will open in the former El Libre spot at 508 Dumaine St. (also a Cuban-inspired cocktail bar). The news was first reported by the cocktail industry website Neat Pour.

The bar was inspired by Hannah and Detrich's trips to Cuba. The bar will serve classic Cuban cocktails and feature a 35-seat bar modeled on “Havana’s golden age,” according to Neat Pour.

Hannah, the James Beard Award-winning bartender of Arnaud’s French 75, will continue to work at the Bienville Street bar as well. Kantor was one of El Libre’s founding partners, which closed late last year and will re-open this spring in the former Bud's Broiler location uptown, at 3151 Calhoun St.
