Comedy in New Orleans this week (March 5, 2018)

We're trying out a test run of a weekly roundup of New Orleans comedy highlights — booked shows, traveling comics, podcast tapings, improv and sketch and where to catch an open mic or a dozen.

Monday

Chris Lane hosts Comic Strip with standup comics Cassidy Hennehan, Vincent Zambon and Mary-Devon Dupuy. There's also burlesque from Darling Darla James and Cherè Noble at 9:30 p.m. Free admission.
Tuesday

Doug Benson records his popular podcast Doug Loves Movies at Cafe Istanbul at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 ($16.52 after fees).

Cyrus Cooper and Vincent Zambon host standup comics  Keegan Connell, Marcus Bond, Sean Murphy, Mary-Devon Dupuy, Josh Cocks and Allison Marie Hotard at Comedy Beast at the Howlin' Wolf Den at 8:30 p.m.

Cassidy Henehan hosts the standup comedy showcase Comedy Catastrophe at Lost Love Lounge at 10 p.m., featuring Marcus Bond, Mickey Henehan, Mary-Devon Dupuy and Geoffrey Gauchet.

There are two standup shows at the Old Opera House at 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Thursday

Improv groups Bank Heist, Live Girls and Adam Scott: Professional Golfer perform at Seven Three Distillery (310 N. Claiborne Ave.) at 7 p.m. Free admission.

Standup comic Corey Mack headlines Night Church at Sidney's Saloon with Kristin L. Wallace, Paul Joseph, Jade Brontè, Kevin Atkinson, Ashleigh Branch, Mary-Devon Dupuy and Geoffrey Gauchet at 8:30 p.m. Paul Oswell and Benjamin Hoffman host. Free admission (and free ice cream).

Ooh, That's My Jam! at the Moxy Hotel features standup comics Thomas Mason, Kate Mason, Isaac Kozell and Geneva Joy at 8 p.m. with host Kamari Stevens. Free admission.

Comedy Cabaret hosts standup comedy and drag performances at Oz at 10 p.m.

Friday


Vincent Zambon hosts Comedy Fuck Yeah at the Dragon's Den featuring standup comics Kamari Stevens, Benjamin Hoffman and Mary-Devon Dupuy at 8 p.m. Free admission.

LGBTQ Storytelling showcase Greetings from Queer Mountain is back at the Marigny Theatre at 7:30 p.m. with the theme "lucky charms." There's performances from Mariana Santiago, Shaina Ariane, Alex Zemanovi, Greg Nacozy and Betsy Housten with host Genevieve Rheams.

Andrew Healan hosts Comedy Night at Martine's Lounge at 8 p.m. with standup comics Katie East, Geoffrey Gauchet, Lane Lonion and Kyle Smith.

Saturday

Standup comics perform at Local Uproar at AllWays Lounge at 8 p.m., and long-running improv group Brown performs at Hi-Ho Lounge at 8 p.m.

Sunday

Long-form improv groups Firetruck and Smarthouse perform at a showcase at Valiant Theatre and Lounge at 7 p.m. with standup comics from the Black Girl Giggles collective.

Open mics:

Monday: Comedy collective Black Girl Giggles guest hosts this week's edition of the Bear With Me open mic at Twelve Mile Limit at 9 p.m.. The fishbowl topic is the Vans Warped Tour. Sign-up is at 8:30 p.m. Free admission.

Tuesday: The Spontaneous Show is at Bar Redux at 8 p.m. Sign-up is 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Think You're Funny? is at Carrollton Station. Sign-up is at 8 p.m. Why So Serious? is at Lucky's at 10 p.m. Sign-up is at 9 p.m. And new-in-town open-mic Run the Light is at 10:45 p.m. at Buddha Belly. Sign-up is at 10:15 p.m.

Thursday: Comedy Gumbeaux is at the Howlin' Wolf at 8:30 p.m. Sign-up is at 8 p.m.

Sunday: NOLA Comedy Hour is at Hi-Ho Lounge at 8 p.m. Sign-up is at 7 p.m. Stand-up or Shut Up is at Buddha Belly at 9:30 p.m. Sign-up is at 9 p.m.
