  • The Caribbean Room at the Pontchartrain Hotel has closed. A new restaurant, Jack Rose, will open in the space next month.

The Caribbean Room at the Pontchartrain Hotel (2031 St. Charles Ave.) closed Sunday. It was just shy of its second year in business.

The restaurant originally was slated to close March 15, but a statement from the restaurant said the spot closed early so contractors could begin construction on the hotel’s new restaurant, Jack Rose.

The Caribbean Room was reopened by John Besh and was taken over earlier this year by QED Hospitality, a company founded by former Besh Restaurant Group employees Emery Whalen and Brian Landry in the wake of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct at the Besh Restaurant Group.

The hotel's remaining restaurant and bars, including the Sliver Whistle Cafe, Bayou Bar and the rooftop bar Hot Tin, remain open.

Starting today, the Sliver Whistle Cafe is extending its hours to include dinner, and the menu will feature a “mix of favorite Bayou Bar dishes and new preview dishes from Jack Rose,” according to the statement. Not much has been revealed about the hotel’s new restaurant, but the concept is expected to be more casual than its predecessor.

As of now, the restaurant’s owners say Jack Rose will open in April.
