A new "fright festival" is coming to the Halloween-craziest of cities (where the holiday lasts at least a month, with bonus jump scares every time you open your Sewerage & Water Board bill).

In October, New Orleans City Park and The Mortuary Haunted House will debut Scout Island Scream Park, a forthcoming "land of terror" on Scout Island (located in the park, north of Highway 610).

The festival will include several themed scare areas including "Cirque du Fear" and "Blood Bayou," a magic area, a kids' zone and several fright-themed activities such as a haunted swamp tour, a "zombie outbreak battlefield," a haunted fun house and more. There's also food, drinks and those most terrifying of activities: carnival rides.

The new Halloween festival may plug the hole created by longtime Halloween haunted house and three-ring circus House of Shock, which operators announced would close at the end of its 2017 run.

It costs $13 to get into Scout Island Scream Park, and some activities and rides require additional tickets. All-access passes are available for $39-$49.

An opening date for the festival has yet to be announced.
