Two restaurants have announced closings, including the long-running West Bank Vietnamese restaurant Kim Son (349 Whitney Ave., 504-366-2489), which The New Orleans Advocate reported would close by the end of June.

The Gretna mainstay is closing after three decades in business due to an expiring lease and because the restaurant’s longtime chef is dealing with a serious medical condition, the newspaper reported.

The West Bank restaurant introduced many local diners to Vietnamese ingredients and cuisine, and its expansive menu included a wide selection of Chinese-American dishes as well.

In Bucktown, the owners of Smokehouse Grill (200 Metairie Hammond Highway, 504-252-4797) announced it has closed. The news was announced on the restaurant’s social media feed, and no reason was given for the shutter.

The short-lived restaurant specialized in barbecue and also served a large menu of all-American dishes and Creole standbys. The spot was barely a year old, and was a combined effort from friends Brandon Herty Arnold and chef Joe Rouchon, who met while working at New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co.
